You may have heard about the Zeno—a small handheld device that claims to get rid of acne by zapping zits into oblivion. Who wouldn’t want one? In our day of quick-and-easy everything, it’s about time someone invented an automated means like Zeno to get rid of acne.
We wanted to know if this cool device called Zeno actually does what it says. Let’s find out what it is, how it works, and—-the big question—-does it really work?
As you can see in the picture, the Zeno devices are handheld piece of electronic machinery. According to claims, it will get rid of acne blemishes by treating the infected spot several times with brief two-minute heat treatments. The Zeno is ideal for people who have mild or medium levels of acne.
The company has recently developed a couple of different products targeted to both prevent acne and get rid of acne blemishes. The “Heat Treat” is a prevention system used all over the face daily to prevent breakouts. The “Hot Spot” device is designed to get rid of acne by treating visible pimples that have already formed. The mini machines appear sleek, simple, and easy to use–an attractive option over slathering your face with lotions and gels.
The original Zeno (now called the Hot Spot) works by focusing a small area of heat directly onto the area of infection. The tip of the Zeno becomes hot enough to kill the bacteria in the skin, enhance the blood flow around the pimple, and (hopefully) put an end to that particular blemish. The claim is that it improves the blemish in 1 hour and clears mild to medium acne problems in about 24 hours.
The Zeno Heat Treat is designed to get rid of acne by preventing facial acne. It also focuses heat onto the skin while also using gentle massaging. When you use it all over your face, every day, it claims to get rid of 99% of bacteria that causes acne. You get optimal results by using it in combination with the salicylic acid formula.
First, we need to understand that the Zeno “Hot Spot” uses basically one method to get rid of acne. It focuses heat on acne prone areas in an effort to eliminate one point of acne. The Hot Spot cannot prevent acne. They had to develop an additional device, the Heat Treat, in order to give you acne prevention as well.
The results claimed on the website are very tempting, and Zeno is very easy to use. It’s also a relatively affordable option at about forty bucks per system that you only need to fork over once to use it as long as you want. The original Zeno does require occasional replacement tips.
Zeno was definitely on the right track when it came up with 2 products to both treat and prevent acne; however, this means you have to purchase both products in order to truly get rid of acne.
The Zeno Hot Spot can only work on one zit at a time. It takes 2.5 minutes to treat one pimple. If you have just a few zits, say 15, it will take you almost forty minutes just to treat your zits in the morning.
If you want to do the Heat Treat prevention at the same time, that’s an additional 3-5 minutes. If you do that a few times a week, you’re spending several hours in front of the mirror clutching your Zeno and trying to get the right level of heat into your skin.
We realized that washing your face with warm water and applying a normal acne medication can do the trick just as well or better, it’s cheaper, and it’s a lot quicker. Suddenly the Zeno doesn’t look all that miraculous.
So, if you want objective advice, we’re not “ga-ga” over the Zeno. If you want to look trendy and spend $150 bucks on machines to warm up your zits, go ahead. Some people may find that the Zeno works really well to get rid of acne. We’re not so sure that’s it better than anything else.
